When the husband brought the divorce papers into the intensive care ward and placed the pen between his wife’s fingers, he was sure everything would be over in a matter of seconds. But when he saw what she wrote on the paper, he simply froze… 😲😲

Eva could barely feel her body anymore. Six months of hospital walls, IV drips, and pain had taken their toll. She had lost a lot of weight, her skin had turned pale, and her voice had almost completely disappeared. Sometimes she could manage only a whisper, and even that with great effort.

The cancer had been discovered unexpectedly. First the examinations, then the surgery, followed by endless treatment. The doctors spoke cautiously, making no promises. Every day drained her strength, but not her will to live. She clung to that will with everything she had left, even when she could no longer get out of bed.

That day she was lying in intensive care after another difficult course of treatment. The monitors beeped softly, the light hurt her eyes. Eva stared at the ceiling and tried not to think about anything.

The door to the room opened and her husband appeared. The man she had lived with for almost fifteen years. He looked neat, with a strained look of concern on his face.

“I won’t be long,” he said quickly, as if afraid to change his mind.

“These are just formalities,” he continued rapidly, stepping closer. “We need your consent for the surgery. Without a signature, the doctors won’t do anything.”

He spoke confidently, giving her no time for questions or doubt. He took out the papers and carefully covered the top part of the page with his hand.

“Everything here is standard,” he went on. “I’ve already discussed everything. You just need to sign.”

He placed the pen in his wife’s fingers. Her hand trembled, she had almost no strength left. The husband bent down and gently guided her hand, as if helping her.

Eva felt an unexpected calm spread inside her. She couldn’t argue and she couldn’t speak, but she understood perfectly what was happening.

Gathering her remaining strength, she slowly moved the pen across the paper.

The husband watched the movement of the pen greedily, already imagining that everything was settled, that he was finally free. But when he saw what his wife had written, his face changed instantly.

He turned pale, unable to utter a single word… 😱😲 The continuation of the story can be found in the first comment 👇👇

Eva wrote slowly. Her hand trembled, her fingers barely obeyed, but she did not rush. She carefully formed each letter, as if she knew that at that moment this was more important than any surgery.

The words appeared on the paper:

“I do not give consent for the surgery. Divorce—only through the court.”

At first, the husband did not even grasp the meaning. He mechanically ran his eyes over the lines, expecting to see a signature. Then he read it again. And again.

He straightened up abruptly. His face tightened, his lips turned white. His thoughts began to race feverishly.

Through the court.

He knew perfectly well what that meant.

In her condition, they would not grant a divorce. No judge would take such a decision while she lay in intensive care, with a severe diagnosis, connected to machines. As long as she was alive and officially recognized as seriously ill, there would be no divorce.

The man clenched the sheet of paper in his hands, then slowly released it. The paper was useless. Everything he had planned to do quietly and quickly collapsed in a single moment.

Eva closed her eyes. She no longer looked at her husband and expected no reaction.
