The mafia boss ordered that the girl, who had dared to stand up to him, be thrown into a cage with enraged dogs to be torn apart: but what those dogs did shocked the entire crowd 

The mafia boss had long noticed the girl from the neighboring district, the daughter of an ordinary blacksmith who had spent his whole life at the forge, barely making ends meet. But the girl seemed as if she didn’t belong to that place. Confident, with a straight back and a clear gaze, she never lowered her eyes before people, not even before those whom the entire city feared.

Her beauty was talked about on every corner, but even more people spoke about her character. They said that for no amount of money in the world would she become someone’s toy, especially not his.

At first, the boss acted as he usually did. He sent expensive gifts, jewelry, rare fabrics, offered money that could have changed the life of her entire family. The blacksmith remained silent, and the girl returned everything every time. She didn’t shout, didn’t make scenes, she simply said calmly that she was not for sale. That angered him more than any insult.

Then he decided to break her in another way. Through fear.

One evening, his men grabbed the girl right on the street. No one intervened. People simply turned away, pretending that nothing was happening. She was taken out of the city, to a place where an old concrete enclosure stood. That’s where they kept dogs surrounded by terrifying rumors. These animals were specially trained for aggression. They were barely fed, given only raw meat, and they knew only one command — to attack and not stop.

The boss stood nearby, watching her as if everything had already been decided.

— Either you become mine, or I throw you in there, — he said calmly, nodding toward the enclosure.

The girl was pale, her hands trembling, but her voice did not break.

— I’d rather die than live with you.

That was enough.

The mafia boss made a barely noticeable gesture with his hand, and she was pushed inside. The heavy door slammed shut behind her with a dull sound.

A crowd had already gathered around. People had come as if to a spectacle. Some watched with curiosity, others with horror, but no one left. Everyone was waiting.

At first, the dogs stayed at a distance. Three huge animals slowly moved forward, their heads lowered. Their bodies were tense, muscles rippling under the skin, saliva dripping from their jaws. The girl took a step back but hit a cold wall. There was nowhere to run.

One of the dogs growled and suddenly lunged forward.

But at the last moment, the dog stopped. The growl turned into something else, something incomprehensible. It slowly came closer and… lowered its head.

The second dog approached as well, walked around the girl, sniffed her, and unexpectedly began to whine softly. The third simply sat down, not taking its eyes off her.

The girl stood motionless, not understanding what was happening. She didn’t scream, didn’t try to run. Her hands slowly dropped, and one of the dogs gently touched her hand with its muzzle.

A strange silence fell over the enclosure.

After a few seconds, the dogs no longer looked like beasts ready to tear apart their prey. They surrounded her, but not to attack. One lay down at her feet, another stood beside her as if protecting her, and the third looked at the crowd with an expression as if the danger was there.

People behind the fence began to whisper. Some took a step back.

The boss frowned. This was not part of his plan.

— Forward! — he shouted sharply, giving the command.

But the dogs didn’t move at all. One of them slowly turned its head toward him and growled. Not at the girl. At him.

The crowd froze.

And at that moment, it became clear that the real beasts in this story were not the ones locked in the cage.
