Recently, while cleaning my house, I saw something unusual on the wall. At first glance, it looked like a tiny crack or a little speck of dust.

I even grabbed a cloth to wipe it away and forget about it. But as soon as I touched it, the “spot” suddenly twitched and began to crawl slowly upward. A chill ran through me — I realized it was something alive.

Looking more closely, I saw what it was and I was horrified 😱😱. I share the details in the first comment — but be careful 👇👇

It was a tiny oval pouch, like a small cocoon, with an insect peeking out. Later I found out that it was Phereoeca uterella, also known as the plaster bagworm or “case-bearing moth.”

These strange creatures build little cases out of spiderwebs, dust, and bits of debris, and then carry them around on walls and ceilings.

At first glance they may seem harmless, but in reality they can cause plenty of problems. The larvae of these moths feed on organic matter: hair, pet fur, spiderwebs, textile fibers, and even book glue.

If they become too numerous, they can damage clothing made from natural fabrics, curtains, and carpets. Their tiny cases also look extremely unpleasant — as if someone had scattered miniature sarcophagi throughout the house.

Fortunately, it is possible to get rid of them. First, you should vacuum thoroughly in every corner and crack, especially along baseboards and under furniture.

It’s also important to regularly remove dust and cobwebs — that’s where they find their food. Textiles should be washed and stored in tightly sealed containers. It’s also wise to reduce humidity in the home, since bagworms thrive in damp places.

I learned one essential thing: even the smallest “speck” on the wall can turn out to be something alive. Since then, I’ve been paying much closer attention to my home and doing my best to keep it perfectly clean.
