I’d just slept in. Once I learned they were stink bug eggs, every crease in the bedding felt suspicious, every tickle on my skin like another hidden intruder.

I stripped the bed down to the mattress, washed everything on high heat, and checked the corners

of the room with a flashlight, suddenly aware that “clean” doesn’t always mean “secure.”

Knowing stink bugs aren’t dangerous didn’t make their quiet intrusion feel any less personal.

They had chosen the most intimate place in my home as a nursery. That morning forced me to accept a hard truth: we share our spaces more than we realize.
