The attendant’s voice was calm, practiced, the kind that could soothe a crying baby or defuse a storm of angry travelers. I nodded, understanding the delicate balance she was trying to maintain. Yet there was something stubborn in the air—perhaps from hunger, perhaps from the exhaustion of my long day—that made me take one more deliberate bite. The woman huffed dramatically, as if my burger were an act of personal sabotage, and I realized this flight was going to be a long one. Instead of escalating the situation, I decided to shift my attention. Outside the window, the clouds stretched like drifting continents, soft and unbothered. I thought about how strange it was—how humans could share a tiny space for hours and still feel worlds apart.
