Tragedy in the US/ Car hits pedestrians in Manhattan, two dead and three seriously injured
Two people were killed and three others were seriously injured after a vehicle went out of control and crashed into pedestrians in New York City.
The accident occurred on Friday afternoon in the Manhattan area, when the driver of the vehicle, according to preliminary reports, lost control of his car.
The incident was recorded at around 6pm local time. Security camera footage, published by the New York Post, shows the vehicle speeding through an intersection before crashing first into a van parked near a barbershop and then into a group of people outside the shop.
As a result, two people died at the scene, while three men, ages 36, 44 and 51, were seriously injured. According to police, they were transported to Mount Sinai Morningside, formerly known as St. Luke’s Hospital, in critical condition.
Authorities have arrested the 61-year-old driver of the vehicle, while investigations continue to determine the causes that led to the loss of control of the car. Police are verifying whether the driver of the vehicle suffered any health problems or if there is another factor that caused the accident.
According to a report by CBS News, investigators do not currently suspect a criminal or terrorist act. The investigation to fully clarify the incident continues.
