A Math Lesson That Revealed a Much Bigger Life Lesson

Little Johnny was being questioned by the teacher during an arithmetic lesson. “If you had eleven dollars and I asked you for a loan of six dollars, how much would you have left?” said the teacher. Little Johnny replied, “Eleven dollars.” “Why eleven?” the teacher said. The class chuckled softly, expecting Johnny to admit he hadn’t been paying attention. But Johnny, with his usual honesty, simply shrugged and said, “Because my dad told me never to lend money I can’t afford to lose.” The room grew quiet. Even the teacher, who had braced herself for another one of Johnny’s silly answers, paused.
