A fatal stabbing at a Texas high school track meet has shaken the community and sparked legal proceedings.
On April 3, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, a Centennial
High School student, admitted to fatally stabbing
Memorial High student Austin Metcalf during an altercation in Frisco. Karmelo told,
police he acted in self-defense after being grabbed by
Austin during a dispute over sheltering from the rain.
Austin, also 17, died from a stab wound to the heart,
reportedly in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter.
The Metcalf family described Austin as a standout
student-athlete with a 4.0 GPA and aspirations of playing college football.
They’ve launched a GoFundMe,
which has raised over $300,000.Karmelo has been charged with
murder and remains in jail on a $1 million bond.
His lawyers say he acted in
self-defense and are seeking a bond reduction. His family,
launched their own fundraiser, which has raised over $260,000
.Both families have received
widespread community suppor
t and are asking for prayers and respect as the legal process unfolds.
