Musk calls for ‘wave of impeachments’ for federal judges

With Trump becoming the president of the country for the second time, things have heated up. Among the rest, he has signed a plethora of executive orders that correspond to his MAGA agenda. However, his signings of these orders triggered legal challenges.

Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) leader Elon Musk is pushing for the GOP-controlled Congress to create a “wave of impeachments” for federal judges after a D.C. court ordered the Trump administration to restore health data that had been taken offline.

Musk took to his platform, X, to respond to claim of a conflict of interest for U.S. District Judge John Bates, who issued a temporary order requiring the government to restore online data removed from the websites of U.S. health agencies.

“There needs to be an immediate wave of judicial impeachments, not just one,” the Tesla owner wrote.

Bates’ decision came following an executive order from President Trump that banned the government from endorsing “gender ideology.”

He ruled in favor of Doctors for America (DFA) who claimed the removal violated the law.

The president argued that the judges intrude his authority by blocking pieces of his agenda. This triggered concerns of whether Trump and his administration would abide the court rulings, as per Reuters

Trump, however, later told reporters that he would abide the rulings but will appeal those that stand on the way of his agenda and Musk’s plans on cutting on wasteful spendings.

“We want to weed out the corruption. And it seems hard to believe that a judge could say, we don’t want you to do that,” said Trump. “So maybe we have to look at the judges.”

Further, Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote: “DOGE has found massive amounts of FRAUD, WASTE, INCOMPETENCE, AND ABUSE, but even knowing this, a highly political, activist Judge wants us to immediately make payment, anyway. In other words pay, even though you know the payment was fraudulently requested to be made. DOGE caught them – The Judge just doesn’t care. It doesn’t make sense!!!”

The case argued whether DOGE and its employees have the right to access sensitive information about millions of Americans. Judge Bates argued that in order for DOGE to have such authority, it needed to be recognized as an official federal agency under the law.

Ultimately, the judge ruled that DOGE does hold that status and it likely qualifies as a federal agency.

Further, DOGE will maintain access to sensitive records from at least three federal agencies, the Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
