“I’m dead in life”: Erika is 20 years old and requested euthanasia after being left quadriplegic by a bottle…See More

Erika Morales, the young woman who requested euthanasia after being left quadriplegic by a brutal attack in a bar in Pasto, has died.

The young woman was the victim of a brutal attack while in the bathroom of a bar in Pasto.

On social media, people close to Erika claim that the attackers were Glair Gómez and Leidy León; however, this information has not been confirmed by authorities.

On Saturday, March 1, 2025, the last wish of Érika Deyanira Morales, a 20-year-old woman who,

after being attacked with a bottle in a bar when she was 17, became quadriplegic, was finally fulfilled

The young woman, originally from Los Andres, Sotomayo (Nariño), had requested euthanasia through communications assisted by her family, emphasizing the physical and emotional pain she endured daily . However, according to Morales’s

family, her EPS Emssanar had denied her access to the procedure.

Thanks to the insistence of Tatiana Morales, her sister, and the virality of the case, the health authority approved the procedure on February 22, and her death was confirmed on Saturday afternoon . “Fly high, my beautiful angel,

I love you always, little sister,” she posted in a WhatsApp message, accompanied by a photograph of the two of them. Later, she shared another image showing Erika’s hands next to hers, a gesture that symbolized the unbreakable bond between the two sisters.

According to local media reports, Morales had been experiencing medical complications in recent days, although it has not yet been confirmed whether that was the exact cause of his death.

Erika’s case captured public attention, especially due to the messages her family shared on social media, detailing the difficult situation she had endured in recent years. The young woman, who lost her mobility and was completely dependent on others to carry out her daily activities,

became a symbol of the fight for the right to die with dignity.

It should be noted that after learning of the EPS’s approval of the procedure,  Tatiana Morales expressed on social media the emotional complexity she faced in supporting her sister in this decision.

“I want to express that there are many mixed feelings, that this isn’t easy, it’s not easy to lose a sister, my only sister. You know, no malicious comments matter to me today. I just know that it was the greatest demonstration of love I’m giving my sister.

That she’s going to be okay, that I managed to get her heard. I hope to continue fighting for justice for my sister. It’s all a fact; it was approved. The rest is something private that we will handle as a family,” she wrote.

This was the accident that changed Erika’s life.

On August 2, 2021, Érika, then 17, went out with her friends to a bar in Pasto (Nariño). There, apparently in the middle of an argument,  Morales was hit with a whiskey bottle while in the bathroom,  causing multiple strokes and a severe spinal cord injury, leaving her with quadriplegia.

This event radically transformed her life, affecting not only her physical health but also her emotional well-being. A year and seven months after leaving critical condition, Morales regained consciousness; however, she was unable to move or breathe on her own. “The specialist spoke with my mother and told her the prognosis wasn’t encouraging,” Tatiana told  Caracol Radio.

Since then, her sister and mother have taken it upon themselves to provide Erika with the best living conditions, despite their financial difficulties: “ We had to ask for help so she could pay the rent, bring diapers, creams to my sister, among many other things that a hospital requires ,” she added to the media.

What is known about the attackers

Meanwhile, images of the alleged perpetrators of the attack on the young woman in the establishment’s restroom began circulating on social media. However, no official developments in the case have been reported. The women were identified as Glair Gómez and Leidy León.

A strange car stopped, and someone inside threw out a black garbage bag — suddenly, the bag moved

The driver was driving silently, staying close to the center of the road. On the passenger seat, an old dog was dozing.  Then, when nothing seemed out of the ordinary, a car appeared ahead. A strange car was slowly moving forward. At one point, it slowed down, the back door opened slightly — and a black garbage bag was tossed onto the side of the road. The car immediately sped up and disappeared around the bend. The driver tensed up. The dog growled and cautiously lifted its head. He slowed down and stopped. The garbage bag on the side… moved. His heart pounded in his chest. He got out of the car and approached the bag.
