I sighed, but the smile came anyway. Mira—four years old, stubborn as steel, independent as a stray comet. Raising her alone hadn’t been part of the plan, but life didn’t care about plans. Her mother, Elena, walked out before Mira’s first birthday, leaving behind a note and a daughter who cried until her voice cracked.
