A Texas school bus carrying more than 40 people rolled over on a rural road earlier this week, sending ten people, including nine students, to hospital.
The Travis County Emergency Services District revealed that the elementary school bus had crashed just outside of Austin Texas.
Kevin Parker, assistant chief with Austin-Travis County Medical Emergency Services, described one of the injuries as life-threatening,
adding that two other injuries were potentially life-threatening.
A total of 43 people were on the bus when it rolled over (42 students and the driver)
with the incident taking place just after school had ended on Wednesday but prior to any of the students having been dropped off, according to ABC News.
Leader Independent School District, Bruce Gerring, told NBC that it’s not clear what caused the accident, though the bus – a 2024 model – veered off to the right side of the road before rolling over.
Meanwhile, an official with the Texas Department of Public Safety told reporters that there was a slight curve in the road.
Gearing went on to add that the driver was experienced, but that it’s unknown how many of the students were wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred.
“We want each of those students and their families to know that our prayers are with them, our thoughts are with them and we will do everything that we can in our power to support them,” he said.
Video footage of the scene showed the yellow bus on its side next the road.
The vehicle’s roof is damaged and several windows are broken.
A later update from the district confirmed that everyone who was sent to the hospital has been released.
Texas DPS is currently investigating the crash.
