Dark purple bruises keep showing up on my arms, and I can’t get in to see my doctor anytime soon. What should I do in the meantime?

Dark purple bruises on your arms can be unsettling, but they are not always a sign of something dangerous. In many older adults,

fragile skin and tiny blood vessels simply break more easily, especially on sun-exposed areas like the forearms and hands.

Conditions such as senile purpura are common, harmless, and often more

dramatic in appearance than they are in meaning. Still, your concern is valid, and noticing changes is a strength, not a flaw.

While you wait to see your doctor, gentle observation is enough. Take clear photos, jot down when bruises appear, and keep a list

of medications and supplements. Seek earlier care if bruising is severe, rapidly spreading, or accompanied by other symptoms like frequent nosebleeds, fatigue, or fever. Protect your skin,

use simple cold packs for tenderness, and avoid harsh home “cures.” Above all, remember

that listening to your body with calm attention is an act of self-respect, not alarm.
