Right in the middle of the living room stood his mother-in-law. Wearing an apron and holding a ladle, as if she had been the lady of the house for years.

“Oh, son-in-law, you’re back!” she said cheerfully, not even noticing his shock. “My daughter asked me to stay here for a week: clean, cook, take care of everything. So I thought I’d come a little earlier.”

The husband was speechless. Not a word. He only tried to discreetly block the view of the mistress behind him.
