When our mom passed away, everything changed.

My dad remarried quickly, and his new wife, Monica, moved into the house we grew up in.

Almost overnight, all traces of Mom were erased — family photos,

her favorite quilt, even the little things that reminded us of her.

My younger sister, Emma, who’s just 16, felt it the most.

When Monica announced she was expecting twins, Emma tried to stay positive.
