The cashier, who introduced himself as Tom, was pacing nervously around the room. “I called an ambulance, but they said it might take a while because of the storm,” Tom explained, his voice trembling with worry.
Kevin nodded, quickly assessing the situation. The snowstorm outside was intensifying, and he knew they couldn’t wait for help to arrive. The woman’s contractions were getting closer together, and it was clear she was going to give birth any moment.
“What’s your name?” Kevin asked the woman gently.
“Emily,” she gasped between breaths.

Kevin’s mind raced as he remembered a first aid course he had taken years ago. It wasn’t much, but it was all he had to rely on. He guided Emily through her contractions, encouraging her and keeping her focused.
