It began quietly — just a soft chime at my front door one Tuesday afternoon. Later, when I checked the doorbell camera, I saw a little girl standing there. About six years old, her cheeks round and rosy, brown hair tied in pigtails, clutching a small teddy bear against her chest. She stared into the camera for a few seconds, then turned and ran off.
