I’ve always trusted my fourteen-year-old daughter. Not blindly, of course—I know the world can be complicated, and children are prone to mischief, experimentation, and mistakes—but I like to think I’ve built a foundation of trust with her, one rooted in honesty, patience, and mutual respect. I’ve tried to make it clear to her that I don’t want to control every step of her life, but that I do care deeply, that my guidance comes from love, and that I hope she knows she can come to me with anything, no matter how small or frightening it might seem.
