During a particularly emotional episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, co-host Mark Consuelos opened up about a heartbreaking moment in his family’s life.
With visible emotion and a somber tone, Mark revealed that he and his wife, Kelly Ripa,
had recently had to say goodbye to their beloved 17-year-old dog, Chewie.
The longtime pet had been a cherished part of the Consuelos-
Ripa household for nearly two decades.
“Chewie was more than just a pet—she was family,” Mark shared, his voice cracking slightly as he spoke.
“She grew up with our kids, was there for birthdays, holidays, all the ups and downs. She was our constant companion through so many chapters of our lives.”
He went on to explain that in recent weeks, Chewie had begun to decline rapidly.
“She stopped eating, and it became clear that she was suffering,” Mark said.
“We did everything we could to make her comfortable, to help her, but her health was deteriorating fast.
It was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make.”
Kelly, sitting beside Mark, nodded in agreement,
visibly emotional but supportive as her husband recounted their final moments with Chewie. “It’s never easy to say goodbye,
” she added softly. “But we knew it was the kindest thing we could do for her.”
The couple explained that they spent Chewie’s final days showering her with love and attention.
Their children, who had grown up with the loyal pup, came home to say their goodbyes.
“We were all there,” Mark said. “She was surrounded by love, by the people who adored her most.”
The story touched the audience deeply, and many viewers took to social media afterward to share their condolences and stories of their own beloved pets.
For many, Chewie’s passing was a reminder of how deeply animals become woven into the fabric of family life.
As the segment ended, Mark thanked fans for their support and kind messages, saying, “If you’ve ever had to say goodbye to a pet,
you know this pain. But we’re grateful for every single moment we had with her.”
