Fans Slam Meghan Markle for Wearing Expensive Jewelry While Visiting Eaton Fire Victims – Video

As Southern California battles an unforgiving wave of wildfires, the Duchess of Sussex has become the focus of heated public debate, with her actions and choices under intense scrutiny.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been active in Southern California, supporting victims of the devastating wildfires that have wreaked havoc in the region. On Friday, January 10, 2025, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Pasadena for the second time in a week, garnering mixed views from the online community.

They met with Mayor Victor Gordo to discuss relief and recovery efforts and spent time with first responders and victims of the Eaton Fire at the Pasadena Convention Center.

During the visit, the royal couple distributed food and essential supplies to victims and engaged in discussions about community recovery and wildfire relief. Their earlier efforts included anonymously delivering food to families displaced by the fires earlier in the week.

However, their recent visit sparked controversy online, as some fans criticized Meghan for wearing expensive jewelry during the outing. In a video from the event, the former actress wore a Cartier bracelet, which became a focal point of criticism online.

Social media platforms lit up with comments about Meghan’s choice of accessories. Some expressed plain disapproval. One user wrote“Photo ops … she shows up wearing 50k in Cartier jewelry lol [sic].”

Another commented“She had to wear a Cartier bracelet for that? Fake.” A third added“Wearing her best Cartier love bracelet jewelry to help out!”

“it’s not time to look perfect or prim and proper. If you want to help you leave jewelry at home and try not to get in the lens of the camera [sic]…” another wrote.

Despite the backlash, others praised the couple for their efforts. One user shared“They’re always so caring and helpful to [sic] others.” Another simply stated“Very nice [of] them.”

On X, opinions were equally divided, with some accusing the couple of staging the visit for publicity. “Meghan, duchess of Sussex & Prince Harry sees this as photo op. She is promoting her new cooking with Cartier watch @netflix show. They aren’t donating, didn’t bring food for wildfire victims (she has cookery show!). Markle just runs there hugging people for cams. Disgusting [sic],” wrote one user.

Another questioned“Was it just a photo op or were they volunteering [sic]?” Others defended the couple’s intentions, emphasizing their compassion and efforts to help. “Remember their compassion the next time you choose to criticize them,” one user commented.

The backlash extended beyond social media, with filmmaker Justine Bateman openly criticizing the couple’s visit, calling it a “photo op.”

She wrote, “Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved. They are ‘touring the damage’? Are they politicians now? They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists.”

Despite the criticism, the couple’s involvement goes beyond their appearances. In an official statement, they emphasized the scale of the wildfire devastation and shared ways to help.

“In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life,” the statement read. They acknowledged the state of emergency and encouraged the public to support organizations offering direct aid.

The statement detailed the critical work done by partners such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, CAL FIRE, and the LA Fire Department Foundation.

Animal welfare groups like the Animal Wellness Foundation are providing shelter and care for evacuated pets, while Baby2Baby is delivering hygiene products, diapers, and emergency kits to families in need.

Harry and Meghan also urged individuals to open their homes to friends, neighbors, and pets displaced by the fires while reminding people to check on elderly or disabled residents who might need help evacuating.

Donations of clothing, toys, and essentials were also encouraged, with specific mentions of organizations like the American Red Cross and Airbnb, which has partnered with 211LA to provide temporary housing.

Amid these efforts, the Duchess of Sussex has decided to delay the release of her upcoming Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan.” Originally slated for a January premiere, the heartfelt lifestyle series has been pushed to March 4, 2025, in light of the wildfire devastation.

“I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California,” Meghan explained.

The show promises a blend of candid conversations and practical tips for creating beauty in everyday life. The 43-year-old “Suits” alum will feature friends and special guests, embracing playfulness over perfection while rolling up her sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond. The project aims to connect with audiences, focusing on the unexpected joy in everyday moments.

In addition to their public appearances, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have opened their Montecito home to friends and loved ones displaced by the fires. Located about 90 miles north of Los Angeles, their residence remains unaffected by the wildfires.

The Archewell Foundation, the couple’s charitable organization, has been actively coordinating with relief agencies to support immediate and long-term recovery. Donations through the foundation have provided meals, mental health services, and essential supplies. Archewell is also looking into additional volunteer opportunities to assist in rebuilding affected communities.

Since January 7, 2025, wildfires have torn through Los Angeles County, forcing over 100,000 residents to evacuate. The Palisades and Eaton Fires, among other blazes, have left widespread destruction. Homes, schools, and medical facilities have been reduced to ashes, and first responders are working tirelessly to protect the affected areas.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s involvement in relief efforts has further highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by Southern California communities.

Their actions — whether perceived as genuine or performative — have brought attention to the critical need for aid and solidarity during this crisis.
